Flight disruptions continued for IndiGo passengers at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, with 18 cancellations reported by 8 am — nine arrivals and nine departures.
Airport authorities said terminal and airside operations remain normal and that passenger support measures are in place. However, travellers have continued to express frustration over long delays and poor communication from the airline.
Khuman Singh, one of the affected passengers, said his Chennai return flight was delayed by 12 hours. “My flight was scheduled for 2 am on December 9. I later got a message saying it was rescheduled to 9 pm. I’ve been trying to reach IndiGo’s helpline for two days but haven’t received a satisfactory response,” he said.
DGCA steps in
Taking note of widespread disruptions across the country, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has set up a special Oversight Team to monitor IndiGo’s operations from its corporate office in Gurugram.
The eight-member team, led by Capt. Vikram Sharma, Deputy Chief Flight Operations Inspector, includes senior flight operations inspectors who will rotate daily at the airline’s headquarters.
The team will examine key operational parameters such as fleet deployment, pilot availability, crew duty hours, training schedules, unplanned leave, flight-to-crew ratios, and the extent of cancellations caused by crew shortages.
According to DGCA, the move aims to protect passengers’ interests and ensure corrective action amid ongoing disruptions.
