A 66-year-old woman died in a road accident near L&T Circle in Vadodara on Tuesday evening after a private bus ran over her two-wheeler. She was riding pillion with her husband when the incident took place.
The victim, identified as Shakuntalaben, fell from the two-wheeler while the couple was navigating the busy roundabout around 5 pm. A private staff bus coming from behind crushed her, killing her on the spot.
Her body remained trapped under the bus wheels for nearly an hour, causing a major traffic jam and drawing a large crowd. Family members — including her injured husband — pleaded for help as locals tried to assist.
Although a PCR van and a 108 ambulance reached the spot quickly, the extraction of the body took time. Eyewitnesses claimed that a delay by Harni police officials worsened the situation. However, Vadodara Police denied the allegation.
Harni Police Inspector S.V. Vasava said heavy traffic slowed the process and that local PCR vans responded promptly. He added that the police were not equipped to remove the body from beneath the vehicle.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar said the delay stemmed from waiting for a hearse van, as emergency calls are routed through the 112 Emergency Response Centre.
