Ahmedabad’s Organising Committee for the 2030 Commonwealth Games is planning to run the event with an operational budget of ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 crore.
A source involved in the preparations said the total cost is still being calculated because infrastructure upgrades—for sports venues and public facilities—are ongoing. Gujarat, the source added, has learned from the mistakes of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, which faced delays, corruption allegations, and costs that shot far beyond estimates.
The ₹3,000–5,000 crore figure includes only the operational cost of running the Games, not the money spent on building new public infrastructure. Those long-term projects, handled by the urban development department, will serve the city beyond the Games and are not counted as Games expenses.
Operational costs cover expenses during the event and can be partly recovered through ticket sales and commercial deals. For comparison, the 2010 Games spent over ₹2,600 crore on operations—much higher than the initial estimate of ₹635 crore—and the total cost exceeded ₹70,000 crore.
Gujarat’s Principal Secretary (Sports), Ashwani Kumar, did not comment on the budget but confirmed that the Organising Committee may be registered as a not-for-profit company. This structure, used during the successful 2006 Melbourne Games and recommended after the 2010 audit, would allow stricter financial oversight. The committee is expected to be formed by late December or early January 2026.
