Gujarat University has announced that regular jobs and professional training courses like CA, CS, and CMA will now be accepted as valid internships for students entering Semester 6. The decision, finalised at a principals’ meeting, brings relief to over 40,000 BA, BCom and BSc students as the university implements NEP-mandated internships for the first time.
Students working alongside their studies can earn internship credits if their employer provides a certificate detailing relevant work. BCom students pursuing CA, CS or CMA will also have their mandatory training counted as internship work.
Other key provisions include placements for 700+ psychology students at a major city hospital, options for outstation students to intern with schools, NGOs or through survey projects, and acceptance of family businesses like salons, garages or shops with proper certification.
Internship Credit Structure:
- 120 hours – 4 credits
- 90 hours – 3 credits
- 60 hours – 2 credits (minimum 2 credits required)
The university has also approached the Municipal Corporation and GIDC to help students secure placements ahead of the Semester 6 start on December 4.
