The Gujarat government’s General Administration Department has released the official list of public, restricted, and bank holidays for 2026.
The state will have 23 public holidays next year. However, three major festivals — Maha Shivratri (Feb 15), Shri Parshuram Jayanti (Apr 19), and Diwali (Nov 8) — fall on a Sunday, meaning no extra holiday for government employees.
Other important holidays include Makar Sankranti (Jan 14), Republic Day (Jan 26), Dhuleti (Mar 4), Ramzan Eid (Mar 21), Independence Day (Aug 15), Raksha Bandhan (Aug 28), Janmashtami (Sep 4), Dussehra (Oct 20), Sardar Patel Jayanti (Oct 31), Bestu Varsh (Nov 10), Bhai Beej (Nov 11), and Christmas (Dec 25).
The government has also issued a list of optional holidays, from which employees can choose any two.
For banks, holidays have been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Notably, April 1, 2026, will be a bank holiday for annual account closing, and all customer services will remain suspended that day.
