The Ahmedabad District Education Office (DEO) has issued a show-cause notice to Udgam School in Thaltej after parents complained that the school was pressuring them to buy uniforms, shoes, sweaters and sports kits from designated vendors.
During an inquiry, officials reportedly found similar instructions on the school’s website, indirectly directing parents to purchase items from specific shops.
The school has denied the allegations on its website, stating that it does not endorse any particular brand and that parents are free to buy uniforms and sweaters from any vendor. It also said staff members have been warned not to enforce strict brand or colour requirements, and urged parents to report any such incidents.
The DEO’s notice states that the school’s actions violate the Education Department’s 2014 resolutions and Sections 17 and 19 of the RTE Act, 2009. The school has been asked to explain why a penalty of ₹10,000 per student should not be imposed.
Parents also alleged that children wearing plain sweaters in winter were stopped and told to wear only sweaters with the school logo. The DEO has taken this complaint seriously as well.
The principal and school management have been directed to appear in person and submit their explanation without delay.
