18-storey multimodal transport hub planned at Akhbarnagar

Ahmedabad will soon get a modern 18-storey Multimodal Transport Hub at Akhbarnagar, integrating AMTS, BRTS and GSRTC bus operations at a single location. The project, to be developed on a 5,564 sq. m plot under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to streamline bus movement and improve commuter convenience.As per the proposal, retail spaces will be developed on the ground, first and second floors, while the third floor will include a banquet hall, auditorium, restaurant, gaming zone and other public facilities. The structure will also feature a solar rooftop to promote clean energy.The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) has invited bids from developers, with architectural designs prepared by Jag Designer Pvt Ltd. Interested bidders must submit proposals by December 27, 2025.Transport Committee Chairman Dharmasinh Desai said the project cost will be finalised after bid evaluations, adding that the hub will serve as a world-class passenger facility and ease congestion for city and state transport buses.The design includes a foot overbridge linking directly to the nearby metro station for smooth passenger movement.Key features:Covered waiting zones for commutersEV charging stations for public and private vehiclesPodium garden on the fourth floorThree-level basement parking for two- and four-wheelersDedicated entry from the eastern 30-metre road for AMTS, BRTS and ST buses, with exit on the western sideThe metro station is located to the north of the site, while the BRTS terminal lies to the south.
