The redevelopment of Ahmedabad’s Vastrapur Lake, originally slated for completion in six months, has now dragged on for 20 months and is expected to continue until January 2026.
Closed to the public since February 2024, the lake’s facelift has faced repeated design revisions and an expanded scope of work, causing major delays.
Initially approved in December 2023 with a budget of ₹5.15 crore, the project’s cost was later revised to ₹8.2 crore in August 2024.
The lake had suffered severe damage in July 2022 after heavy rains caused sinkholes and breaches in the embankment. The AMC carried out temporary repairs before starting full-scale redevelopment nearly a year and a half later.
