Several parts of Saurashtra — including Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Valsad — received unseasonal rainfall on Saturday, raising concerns among farmers as a depression formed over the Arabian Sea.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for the next four days and issued a Signal No. 3 warning at coastal ports.
Light to moderate showers were reported in Amreli and Khambha, bringing cooler weather but also damaging standing crops such as groundnut, cotton, and pigeon pea (tuvar).
In Veraval, rain accompanied by thunder caused waterlogging in several areas, including near the Somnath temple.With the depression active over the Arabian Sea, the IMD has warned of rough sea conditions. Signal No. 3 has been hoisted at Ghogha and Okha ports, while Signal No. 1 is in place at Salaya.
Fishermen have been advised to stay ashore.For Sunday, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Botad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar, and a yellow alert for Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Junagadh, Surat, Valsad, Gir Somnath, and other districts, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall across Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
