Two people were critically injured on Friday evening after a ‘Break Dance’ ride collapsed during the annual Diwali funfair in Jetpur, Rajkot district.
The victims, identified as Dhaval Mandali and his wife Gayatri Mandali, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Eyewitnesses said panic erupted among visitors as the ride suddenly broke down mid-operation, leading to chaos at the venue.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, closed the funfair, and began investigating the cause of the collapse. Officials are checking whether the organisers had obtained proper permissions and followed safety and maintenance protocols for the amusement rides.
The mishap has drawn comparisons to the 2019 Kankaria tragedy in Ahmedabad, where a pendulum ride named Discovery snapped, killing two and injuring 29 others.
