Diwali celebrations in Gujarat witnessed a worrying spike in emergencies, with GVK-EMRI’s Emergency Ambulance Service handling 5,406 cases on the festival day — a 12.04% increase compared to the average 4,285 daily emergencies reported in 2025.
The data shows a particularly sharp 73.75% rise in road accident cases, which surged to 919 on Diwali from 529 on normal days. Surat topped the list with 105 accidents, followed by Ahmedabad (104), Dahod (54), Rajkot (51), and Vadodara (50).Cases of physical assault also spiked dramatically, marking a 144.58% increase over regular days.
Ahmedabad reported the highest number of such cases (79), followed by Surat (59), Dahod (29), and Kutch (20).Burn injuries, mostly linked to firecracker mishaps, remained another concern. Ahmedabad accounted for 17 of the 58 total burn cases, while Surat recorded 8, and Jamnagar reported 5.
Among non-vehicular trauma cases, 862 emergencies were recorded, including 391 assaults, 291 falls/skids, 16 electrocutions, and 29 crush injuries. Other emergencies included 380 breathing difficulties, 570 abdominal pain cases, 267 cardiac arrests, 192 fever cases, 147 poisoning incidents, and 33 stroke-related emergencies.
