The Jain community has showcased its strong collective purchasing power by buying 186 luxury cars—including models from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz—in a coordinated deal that helped members save ₹21 crore.
According to Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) vice president Himanshu Shah, the not-for-profit body acted as a facilitator, with no commercial gain from the initiative. “Cars priced between ₹60 lakh and ₹1.3 crore were delivered to owners across India between January and June this year,” Shah said, adding that most buyers were Gujarat-based Jains.
The idea was sparked by a few members who suggested leveraging the community’s collective buying strength to negotiate directly with automakers. “We approached the brands and secured heavy discounts as the bulk deal cut their marketing costs,” explained Nitin Jain, who led the initiative.
As word spread, more JITO members joined in, resulting in total savings of up to ₹8–17 lakh per buyer—“enough to buy another car for a family member,” Jain joked.
Encouraged by the success, JITO has now launched a new venture called ‘Utsav’, aiming to secure similar large-scale discounts on jewellery, consumer durables, and electronics.
