Ahead of Diwali, sanitation workers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have announced a one-day strike on Tuesday, demanding an end to outsourcing in sanitation services.
The workers’ union stated that their demands would not place any financial burden on the civic treasury, yet the AMC administration has failed to take a decisive step.
All sanitation workers and union members will stay off duty for a day. The union has also warned of an indefinite strike if the authorities do not respond positively.
According to municipal sources, the union’s demands include fresh recruitment and other issues that could affect municipal bodies across Gujarat. The AMC has reportedly discussed the matter with the ruling BJP.
