Gujarat has launched an ambitious Regional Economic Master Plan aiming to expand its economy from $280 billion to over $3.5 trillion by 2047. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the plan on Thursday during the first Vibrant Gujarat Regional Summit held in Mehsana.
The roadmap outlines over 15 lakh crore in public and private investments across more than 500 projects, targeting balanced growth across all 33 districts. The initiative is expected to create 2.8 crore new jobs over the next two decades.
Six key economic regions
The plan covers six major economic regions — North Gujarat, Kutch, Central Gujarat, Saurashtra, Coastal Saurashtra, and Surat. Each region’s strategy builds on its local strengths, while new Regional Skilling Centres and Centres of Excellence will train youth in green skills, logistics, and artificial intelligence.
Focus on future-ready sectors
The plan emphasises advanced manufacturing in electric vehicles, battery storage, and biofuels, while expanding the services sector — projected to contribute 51% of Gujarat’s economy by 2047. Key growth areas include Global Capability Centres and financial services.
Gujarat also plans to harness its 2,240 km coastline for Blue Economy and tourism initiatives, focusing on ports, shipbuilding, cruise tourism, and wellness travel. Agro-processing will adopt agri-tech and high-value food products like ready-to-eat meals and nutraceuticals.
Infrastructure at the core
Robust infrastructure will drive the state’s growth, with projects including coastal and high-speed rail corridors, sea links, expanded airports, cargo terminals, and cold chains.
Chief Minister Patel urged investors to participate in Gujarat’s transformation journey, highlighting vast opportunities for private investment in the state’s future growth story.
