The Gujarat government will train more than 20,000 newly recruited teachers of Classes 3 to 10 in effective teaching methods, question design, and student evaluation, in line with the New Education Policy (NEP).
The training, being introduced for the first time, will cover lesson planning, use of technology, exam question framing, assessment methods, and result preparation.
In the first phase, around 10,500 teachers of Classes 3–5 and 9–10 will undergo training from October 29 to November 4 during the Diwali vacation. The remaining 10,000 teachers for Classes 6–8 will be trained after their school postings are finalized.
Although five years have passed since the NEP’s rollout, many of its provisions remain unimplemented. The move aims to ensure teachers are well-prepared to meet NEP standards and improve student learning outcomes.
The Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) has directed district education offices and municipal school bodies to organize the sessions, with a special grant approved for training expenses.
