The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that a deep depression over the northeast Arabian Sea has intensified into Cyclone Shakthi and may further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm.
The system, centred about 250 km west-southwest of Dwarka and 270 km southwest of Naliya, is expected to move west-northwest before curving towards the central Arabian Sea. While it is unlikely to make landfall in India, it will bring heavy rain to Saurashtra and Kutch, besides very rough seas along the Gujarat–Maharashtra coast. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea between October 3 and 6.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad recorded its first major dip in night temperatures this season, with the minimum falling to 24.8°C on October 2 — nearly three degrees cooler than last year. Weather officials said clear skies and the retreat of monsoon are setting the stage for cooler October nights.
Heavy showers were reported in Junagadh and Surendranagar, while Dwarka, Okha, Keshod, Mahuva and Bhuj also received significant rain.
