For the first time in Sasan’s history, the Gir National Park safari will open ahead of schedule to welcome President Droupadi Murmu during her visit on October 10 and 11.
Gir Safari, which normally remains closed from June 15 to October 15 for monsoon safety and ecological recovery, will now open on October 9—seven days early—as a special exception.
The President is expected to spend two days in the sanctuary, experiencing its post-monsoon greenery and observing the Asiatic lions, often hailed as the pride of Asia. This will be the fourth presidential visit to Gir, following trips by Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pratibha Patil, and Ram Nath Kovind.
President Murmu’s visit continues this legacy, highlighting Gir’s role as both an ecological treasure and a national heritage site. Forest officials, local authorities, and security teams are making elaborate arrangements for the tour, with officials stressing that the early opening is a one-time measure.
