Dwarka-Somnath-Nageshwar circuit leads with 65% youth visitors
Religious tourism in Gujarat has doubled in the last two years, outpacing other tourism segments in the state. Industry experts say nearly 65% of travellers are now young people, reshaping the profile of pilgrimage tourism.

The state’s most sought-after circuit connects Dwarka, the ancient city of Lord Krishna, with the Somnath and Nageshwar Jyotirlingas, both among the 12 revered Shiva shrines. Ambaji Temple and Palitana’s Jain temple complex also remain high on the list of spiritual destinations.
Gopal Unadkat of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) said, “Post-COVID, Gujarat has seen a surge in religious tourism, particularly from Southern India and Maharashtra. This has boosted hospitality, cab services, and other allied industries.”
Ahmedabad-Diu flight boosts connectivity
The direct Ahmedabad–Diu flight has become a game-changer, with Diu—just two hours from Somnath—emerging as a hub for both spiritual and leisure tourism.
“Hotels in Diu have expanded rapidly,” said Yatin Fugro, President of the Diu Hotels Association. “Along with road connectivity, new water sports at Nagoa and Ghoghla beaches have added to the appeal.”
Manish Sharma of Akshar Travels noted, “Many tourists now combine temple visits with leisure activities, extending their stays. Gujarat is among the top 10 fastest-growing states for religious tourism, alongside Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.”
