The Gujarat government has approved the creation of 17 new talukas to decentralise administration, raising the total count to 265.
Announcing the decision, state spokesperson Hrishikesh Patel said the move will bring administrative headquarters closer to residents, improving access to social, economic, health, and educational facilities while supporting faster development.
The new talukas include four in Banaskantha, two each in Dahod, Aravali, and Surat, and one each in Kheda, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Narmada, Valsad, Chhota Udepur, and Tapi districts.
This follows the state’s creation of its 34th district, Vav-Tharad, earlier this year as part of its decentralisation plan.
