A diploma student from Ambawadi was allegedly harassed by Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) staff after being accused of travelling without a ticket.
The student had tried to buy a ticket from Panjrapol to Rabari Colony, but staff asked him to purchase it at the next station. By the time he reached Nehrunagar, his bus had already arrived, forcing him to board without a ticket due to low service frequency. He later got down at Anjali bus stand to buy one, but checking officials confronted him, accused him of fare evasion, and demanded a penalty.
Despite being a minor, no attempt was made to contact his guardian, as per rules. Instead, officials allegedly pressured him to pay online, insulted and manhandled him, and threatened police action. Eventually, his friend and guardian both ended up paying, with ₹200 collected but not refunded.
The incident left the student distressed and with elevated blood pressure. Fellow commuters criticised BRTS staff, alleging they treat students like “thieves” instead of acting responsibly.
