The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed 25 housing units allotted under the Pradhan Mantri and Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana after inspections revealed they were being rented out instead of used by beneficiaries.
AMC’s Estate Department inspected 5,590 units across seven zones, issuing show cause notices to 321 beneficiaries. The housing schemes are meant to provide homes to economically weaker sections, but several allottees were found violating rules despite high demand and limited allotments.
Housing Committee Chairman Mukesh Patel said that before any allotment is cancelled, a hearing must be held. Of the 33 hearings conducted so far, 14 cases have led to final notices being served.
