The government has simplified the GST registration process to further promote ease of doing business, particularly for small firms and low-risk applicants.Under the new system, eligible applicants will receive registration within three working days. Businesses estimating an input tax credit claim of less than ₹2.5 lakh can opt for this simplified process.CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said such registrations will be system-generated. If these businesses expand later, they can transition to the normal registration category based on risk analysis.Meanwhile, the GST Council has also recommended rationalising tax slabs by scrapping the 12% and 28% rates, while retaining 5% and 18%. It has further proposed an amendment to allow 90% of refund claims to be disbursed within seven days after system-based risk evaluation, subject to Parliament’s approval.
