Ahmedabad’s prominent Karnavati Club has been issued demolition notices by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for alleged unauthorised structures within its premises.
The matter, which has been lingering since 2009, resurfaced after the club withdrew its recent petition from the Gujarat High Court. Earlier, the club had filed a civil suit to restrain AMC from taking action, but the case was dismissed in 2019 due to repeated non-appearance by club representatives. A restoration plea filed in 2020 also failed to progress.
During High Court proceedings, AMC’s counsel G.H. Virk argued that the club was not entitled to special treatment. With the court refusing to intervene, the civic body’s demolition notices remain valid.
This is not the first controversy for the club, which had earlier faced allegations of encroachment while constructing its Golden Glory Hall.
