The Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) has started issuing notices to developers who failed to display mandatory QR codes, registration numbers, and website details on hoardings and advertisements of their projects.Officials said fines and suo motu action may be initiated against violators.
Several developers have already received notices with photographic proof of non-compliance, similar to traffic e-challans.In June, RERA made it compulsory to print registration numbers and website details in advertisements in a font size equal to the contact number, while also introducing the QR code mandate. The QR code, part of the registration certificate, offers an easier way for stakeholders to verify project details.
Experts point out that while displaying registration details has been mandatory under Section 11(2) of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, the QR code requirement is a new addition effective June 15, 2025.Order No. 108, issued by the Special Secretary of RERA, states that the rule will be strictly enforced across all publicity material.
A source said, “We have received a notice and must comply. Many builders across the state are facing similar action for not following the new norms.”
