Traffic chaos near Panjrapole: Residents, commuters struggle as flyover work drags on

Daily life in Ambawadi has turned into a grind for residents, commuters, and shop owners as work on the new flyover near Panjrapole Junction continues.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) says the project will connect Panjrapole Junction with IIM Road, easing travel for over 1.5 lakh people once completed. But for now, with nearly 80% of the road barricaded for months, the area is choking under severe congestion.Narrow lanes left open have created daily traffic snarls. During peak hours, cars, buses, and pedestrians jostle for space while schoolchildren weave through barricades to reach bus stops.

Commuters complain of waiting in cramped, unsafe conditions exposed to dust, heat, and rain.Residents say they struggle just to get in and out of their housing societies.

“It’s been months, and every day is a battle to take out our vehicles or walk safely,” said Ashish Joshi, a local resident.Business owners too are feeling the pinch. Shops and offices report falling footfall as customers avoid the area and parking space has disappeared.

“Clients can’t reach us and visitors have nowhere to park,” said Shree Santosh Guru, who runs an office nearby.Frustration has grown as no clear deadline has been communicated so far.

AMC’s responseDeputy Municipal Commissioner Mirant Parikh said safety measures are in place and additional space will be created to reduce congestion. He added that boards showing the project’s timeline would soon be installed, with the flyover expected to take around 18 months to complete.
