The Ahmedabad Municipal School Board has rolled out a new initiative, the ‘Alumni Connect’ scheme, aimed at tracing former students and creating a comprehensive alumni database spanning the institution’s 100-year history. As part of the centenary celebrations, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will match the contributions made by alumni to their schools.
The board traces its roots back to April 1, 1925, when its first meeting was chaired by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Since then, lakhs of students have studied in municipal schools, many of whom have gone on to excel in diverse fields.
“Through the Alumni Connect scheme, we are reaching out to these students and inviting them to reconnect with their schools. Whatever amount they contribute will be matched by the AMC as a grant to the same school,” said L. D. Desai, Administrative Officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board.
Special Initiatives for Students
As part of the centenary year, the board has planned a series of activities for its current students. Out of 1.71 lakh students, about 25,000 from the top 60 schools will be taken on exposure visits to IIT Gandhinagar, said AMC school board chairman Sujay Mehta.
In addition, the board will recognize 100 outstanding schools from among its 453 institutions, designating them as “Best 100 Centenary Anupam Schools.” These schools will be honoured with prize money and certificates during the celebrations, sources confirmed.
