A new low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal near Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts, which is likely to intensify into a depression within 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.This system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain to central India and the west coast in the coming days.Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat are likely to see widespread heavy rainfall over the next week, with extremely heavy rain in Konkan (including Mumbai), Goa, Madhya Maharashtra till August 19, and Gujarat till August 20.Saurashtra is likely to see peak rainfall activity on August 19–20.States including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha may also receive heavy rain over the next two days, with isolated extremely heavy showers in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana between August 17–18.Earlier, the heaviest rainfall was concentrated over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, but the monsoon trough has now shifted southwards, changing rainfall patterns.
