NHAI to Launch FASTag Annual Pass on Independence Day

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will introduce the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, aimed at making highway travel more convenient and cost-effective for frequent private vehicle users. The scheme, applicable to cars, jeeps, and vans, offers up to 200 toll crossings or one year of travel—whichever comes first—for a one-time payment of ₹3,000. The move is expected to reduce the need for repeated recharges, speed up toll transactions, and ease congestion at toll plazas.

About the FASTag Annual Pass
First announced in June, the pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial vehicles and will be linked to an existing active FASTag registered to the vehicle. It applies only to toll plazas on national highways and expressways managed by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the initiative addresses issues related to toll plazas located within a 60 km range, simplifies payments, and cuts wait times. The pass is non-transferable, non-refundable, and valid only for a single registered vehicle.

How to Purchase
Motorists can buy the pass via the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MoRTH websites by logging in with their vehicle number and FASTag ID, ensuring the tag is active and properly installed. Payment of ₹3,000 can be made through UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. Upon activation on August 15, users will receive an SMS confirmation.

Coverage and Rules
The pass will function only on NHAI-operated national highways and expressways such as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai-Nashik, and Mumbai-Ratnagiri routes. It will not cover state highways or municipal toll roads, where regular FASTag charges will apply—for example, on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu. Each crossing under NHAI will deduct one trip, and after 200 trips or a year, the system will revert to pay-per-use mode. The pass will not auto-renew, requiring a fresh application after expiry.
