In a moving display of sibling love that transcends tradition, a 46-year-old Ahmedabad woman has donated her kidney to her ailing elder brother, just days before Raksha Bandhan.
Pavan Kumar Banka (53) of Jetpur, Rajkot district, had been undergoing regular dialysis after complete kidney failure. When his wife and children were found medically incompatible, hope seemed to fade—until his younger sister, Babita Agrawal, volunteered without a second thought.
“I wanted my lost brother back,” Babita said. “If he needs an organ for that, it is my dharma to give it.”
The transplant took place on July 29 at Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad, under the supervision of senior nephrologist Dr. Mayank Shah and his team.
Traditionally, Raksha Bandhan is a promise of protection from brothers to sisters. This year, Babita reversed the ritual—offering not a thread, but the gift of life itself.
