More than four months after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 on June 12—which claimed the lives of 230 passengers and 12 crew members—families of about 60 victims from Ahmedabad have decided to take legal action against Boeing, the US-based manufacturer of the 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft involved in the disaster.
The families have reportedly approached US law firm Beasley Allen, with renowned aviation lawyer Mike Andrews expected to represent them.
Trupti Soni, an Ahmedabad resident who lost three relatives in the crash, said the victims’ families should be part of the investigation, expressing fears that the probe “is not unbiased.” She added, “The investigation feels messy and unstructured. The released report raises more questions than it answers, and the agencies are sharing only selective information.”
In July, families from the UK and the US had also shown interest in suing Boeing.
The London-bound AI171 flight crashed into a medical college hostel just seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, killing 241 people in total—including 19 on the ground. One passenger miraculously survived the catastrophe.
