As the number of vehicles continues to rise, so does traffic congestion. Making matters worse for commuters are vehicles parked haphazardly, blatantly violating traffic rules.
According to a media report, that despite ongoing efforts by traffic police to tow and clamp down on illegal parking, such violations remain widespread across city roads.
The growing nuisance of illegal parking on the right side of the road, near dividers, has raised serious concerns about the increased risk of accidents. Priya Soni, who uses a gearless scooter, said, “The apathy of Amdavadis is reaching new heights. As if parking illegally on the left side was not enough, some drivers routinely park on the right side of the road, near the divider. Such careless parking is rampant and it adds to daily commuting woes.” In several areas like Bhuyangdev Road and the Balolnagar to Vyaswadi road, drivers have been seen parking their cars on the right side of the road, often near road dividers, she said.
Parking outside designated yellow lines on the left side of the road is common on several busy stretches like Gurukul Road, Drive-In Rd, Bhuyangdev, Commerce Six Roads and Balolnagar-Vyaswadi stretch.
Sitting in Cars to Dodge Towing: Illegal Parking Still Rampant
Despite the Traffic Department’s intensified crackdown on illegal parking, its impact has been limited. Karan Mehta, a regular commuter on CG Road, shared, “Two-wheelers are usually towed, but cars often get away. Many are parked beyond the yellow lines, especially on CG Road and Gurukul Road, causing serious traffic snarls.” He also highlighted a growing trend—drivers sitting inside their illegally parked cars to avoid towing.
One of the key reasons behind this persistent problem is the lack of adequate parking facilities, particularly in commercial zones like CG Road and Gurukul Road, which attract heavy footfall due to popular clothing stores and cafes. With no proper parking lots, motorists park on main roads, blocking lanes and worsening congestion.
Joint CP (Traffic) N N Chaudhari stated, “We are already taking strict action against haphazardly parked vehicles across the city.”
