Some posters put up across Ahmedabad by a voluntary group caused embarrassment for the city’s police on Friday. Featuring the Ahmedabad Police logo, the posters warned people—especially women—against attending night parties or visiting isolated places, suggesting it could lead to rape or gangrape.
According to a media report, these messages sparked backlash from residents, prompting the police to remove the posters. Authorities later clarified that they had not approved the content and have warned the group, named Satarkta, not to post such messages again.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), NN Choudhary, explained that Satarkta usually puts up posters about traffic awareness. However, this time, they acted without informing the police and put up controversial messages unrelated to traffic. The police acted quickly to remove them.
DCP Traffic (West), Neeta Desai, confirmed that Satarkta is an NGO that normally helps spread awareness about traffic rules. She said the group had never consulted them about these new posters and has now been strictly warned.
