An IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Diu with 60 passengers on board aborted takeoff after one of its engines reportedly caught fire. The incident occurred during the aircraft’s takeoff roll, prompting an immediate evacuation, according to Deccan Herald.
According to a media report, the pilot issued a “Mayday” call to air traffic control as soon as the issue was detected. IndiGo confirmed that a technical snag was observed just before takeoff on flight 6E 7966 on July 23, 2025.
“In line with standard operating procedures, the pilots alerted the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The plane will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before it resumes operations,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
The aircraft involved was an ATR 76, scheduled to depart from Ahmedabad airport at 11 am.
IndiGo expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and said affected passengers were being provided with refreshments, rebooking options on the next available flight, or full refunds, depending on their preferences.
This incident comes shortly after another IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore experienced a technical snag before landing on Monday. That aircraft landed safely and is also undergoing inspection before returning to service.
