In a major breakthrough, the Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch (LCB) has cracked a high-value theft case involving 11 rare and exotic parrots, including endangered species, stolen from a pet shop in Vejalpur. Wildlife and property worth ₹16.99 lakh were recovered, and one accused, identified as Bishal Yadav, has been arrested. Authorities are continuing their search for his accomplices.
The theft took place during the night of July 7–8, 2025. Mohammad Aqib Sheikh, the owner of the exotic pet shop, lodged a complaint after discovering the burglary.
Among the stolen birds were:
- 3 Blue Gold Macaws (₹3,00,000)
- 1 Green Wing Macaw (₹3,20,000)
- 1 Moluccan (White) Cockatoo (₹3,15,000)
- 1 Sulphur-crested (Galerita) Cockatoo (₹1,95,000)
- 1 Amarela (White) Cockatoo (₹1,10,000)
- 2 African Grey Parrots (₹98,000)
- 2 Eclectus Parrots (₹1,50,000)
In addition to the birds, police recovered bird cages, two mobile phones, and a getaway car used in the theft.
Based on a specific intelligence input, LCB officials tracked down Bishal alias Vishal Yadav. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he discovered the shop through Instagram reels featuring rare birds. Attracted by their high value, he surveilled the premises and later executed the burglary with an associate.
Originally from Gaura village in Bihar, Yadav currently lives near Kidney Hospital in Nadiad and has a criminal history, including cases of goat theft in Bharuch, Nadiad, and Padra. He told police he needed money to fund his wedding during the upcoming Diwali season and planned the theft accordingly.
He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Vejalpur Police Station. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime.
Authorities commended the swift action of the LCB in rescuing the endangered birds, which are now under the care of wildlife officials.
