A day after the Gambhira bridge collapse in Vadodara, which claimed 15 lives, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani has directed the Bridge Project Department to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all bridges in the city — including railway overbridges, river bridges, and other key structures.
Ahmedabad has a total of 89 bridges, which include:
- 11 bridges over the Sabarmati River
- 25 railway bridges
- 20 flyovers
- 3 minor bridges
- 7 canal box culverts
The commissioner has instructed officials to assess the structural stability of each bridge and to immediately undertake any necessary repairs to ensure public safety. A detailed report of the inspection findings has been requested within one week.
