With the arrival of the monsoon, Ahmedabad is witnessing a sharp rise in waterborne diseases. Between July 1 and 5, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) recorded 184 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, 92 of typhoid, 69 of jaundice, and six cases each of cholera and dengue.
Dr. Bhavin Solanki, AMC health officer, said pesticide spraying is underway in waterlogged areas prone to mosquito breeding. Special teams have been deployed to inspect residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, schools, and colleges. The health department is also testing water and blood samples in affected areas and distributing chlorine tablets as a preventive measure.
