Gujarat continued to witness heavy rainfall on Tuesday, with showers recorded in 31 districts and 170 talukas over the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for 10 districts.
Surat district recorded the highest rainfall during this period. In Surat city, 13.62 inches of rain fell, followed by Kamrej (10.71 inches), Palsana (8.19 inches), Bardoli (6.57 inches), and Tilakwada in Narmada district (6.02 inches).
Between 6 am and 4 pm on Tuesday alone, Nandod in Narmada received 8.66 inches—the highest in the state during that period—followed by Tilakwada (7.13 inches), Dahod (7.09 inches), Vapi (6.02 inches), and Jetpur Pavi (5.55 inches).
The IMD’s red alert covers Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, warning of “heavy to very heavy rainfall.”
An orange alert has been issued for Wednesday in Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Chhotaudepur, Dangs, Tapi, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. Light to moderate rain is also expected in districts like Ahmedabad.
So far, 2,865 people have been evacuated across Gujarat due to heavy rains. Rescue operations have saved 542 people in Surat, Bhavnagar, Botad, Amreli, Gandhinagar, and Dahod, according to government officials.
