With the arrival of the monsoon season, Ahmedabad municipal authorities are ramping up efforts to curb mosquito-borne diseases by harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drone technology to identify mosquito breeding hotspots across the city.
As part of its ambitious mission to make Ahmedabad malaria-free by 2030, the initiative will cover both urban and rural areas. Drones equipped with AI will be used to detect stagnant water bodies and pinpoint potential breeding sites, particularly in industrial and hard-to-reach residential zones, according to official sources.
Meanwhile, larvicide spraying has already commenced in high-risk areas such as Changodar GIDC, Sanand GIDC, Sanathal, Navapura, Changodar, Moraiya, and Chharodi, where ongoing construction and industrial activity create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
