In a major push to support its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, Gujarat is set to make massive investments in sports infrastructure across the state.
According to a media report, marking Olympic Day on June 23, the state government announced the construction of six major sports complexes with an estimated investment of ₹6,000 crore. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Ahmedabad as a strong contender for hosting the Olympics.
At present, the Sports Authority of Gujarat oversees 30 sports complexes, including 24 at the district level and 6 at the taluka level, along with 20 sports hostels that provide residential training to nearly 4,000 athletes.
Looking ahead, the authority plans to develop 31 more sports complexes—13 at the district level and 18 at the taluka level—to further expand the training and competition infrastructure across the state.
In addition to this, new world-class sports facilities are being planned at strategic locations such as Pethapur, Karai Police Academy, GIFT City, and Manipur-Godhavi.
A key highlight of the state’s Olympic vision is the proposed Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Motera, Ahmedabad. This mega sports hub will include Olympic-standard stadiums, an Olympic Village, and other essential amenities to meet international hosting standards.
