Rain has spread across more than 20 districts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, as the monsoon gains strength. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert on Friday in parts of south Gujarat and Saurashtra.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in districts such as Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, the Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
Additionally, light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 km/h are likely in Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and Vadodara.
“Monsoon activity was vigorous over the Gujarat region and normal over Saurashtra-Kutch,” IMD noted. On Thursday, heavy rainfall was reported in areas like Navsari, the Dangs, Saman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Valsad.
By 4 pm Thursday, 92 talukas had received light to very heavy rainfall. Kaprada in Valsad recorded the highest at 4.49 inches, followed by 4.25 inches in Dharampur, 3.9 inches in Umargam, 3.86 inches in Khergam (Navsari), 3.58 inches in Hansot (Bharuch), 3.5 inches in Olpad (Surat), and 3.43 inches in Vadhai (Dang). Meanwhile, over 63 talukas recorded less than 1 inch of rain.
