As tensions rise in Iran after Israeli attacks and news about nuclear sites, Air India has asked travelers to be careful when flying to or from India.
In response to the escalating situation in Iran and the closure of its airspace, Air India has diverted or returned multiple international flights to safeguard passengers. Affected routes include Mumbai, London, New York, Sharjah, Delhi, Frankfurt, Chicago, Washington, and Toronto.
The flights have either been diverted or instructed to return to their origin, with passenger safety as the top priority. Air India assured that “Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations.
What Happened?
Tensions between Iran and the international community escalated sharply after Tehran unveiled a third nuclear enrichment facility—just hours after receiving a rare rebuke from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), its first in two decades, over Iran’s failure to meet nuclear nonproliferation commitments. In retaliation, Iran’s Foreign Ministry and Atomic Energy Organization issued a joint statement calling the resolution “political” and defending its actions. Soon after, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. Explosions were reported across Tehran early Friday, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that the strikes would continue “as long as necessary to eliminate the threat.”
This development follows a tragic incident in India, where an Air India flight enroute to London crashed into a college hostel in Ahmedabad, claiming the lives of over 260 passengers.
