In a landmark development for India’s entertainment industry, Universal Studios is set to launch its first theme park in the country, with plans to open doors by mid-2027. The upcoming attraction will be part of a massive retail and entertainment hub being developed at Aerocity, adjacent to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The theme park, which will occupy approximately 300,000 sq ft within a sprawling 3 million sq ft mall developed by Bharti Realty, is expected to bring a new dimension to the national capital’s leisure landscape. Designed as an indoor facility, the park is being tailored to Delhi’s extreme weather conditions from scorching summers and heavy monsoons to cold winters ensuring uninterrupted year-round operations.
The strategic decision to opt for an indoor park not only addresses climatic challenges but also provides a consistent, climate-controlled environment for visitors. This makes it a strong draw for families, tourists, and even corporate groups seeking reliable and immersive entertainment.
Aerocity, envisioned as a 17 million sq ft urban hub, has already seen the completion of around 6.5 million sq ft of infrastructure. The larger mall-and-entertainment complex housing the Universal Studios park is anticipated to generate annual rental revenue exceeding ₹5,000 crore.
The theme park is also projected to significantly boost employment, creating thousands of jobs across sectors such as hospitality, retail, logistics, and live entertainment. Its presence is likely to bolster Delhi-NCR’s appeal as a global leisure and tourism destination, drawing both domestic and international footfall.
Currently, India has around 6.6 million sq ft of indoor entertainment space spread across more than 500 locations. This number is expected to touch 11 million sq ft by 2028, driven by increasing disposable incomes, the expanding mall culture, and a growing appetite for experiential leisure activities.
