Fun to Your June with Drama, Music & More This Weekend

Business News

Gujarati play: Dhandhero 

  • Kalasmruti brings A Gujarati family comedy drama presented by Niyati foundation and Smita rajpopat. It is written and directed by Karan Solanki.
  • When: June 8 (8 pm)
  • Where: Kalasmruti, GSTV campus, beside Iskcon temple

Film showcase by Charles Correa Foundation

This week, Arthshila Ahmedabad, in partnership with the Charles Correa Foundation, is hosting a three-day film screening of the shortlisted films from the Nagari Short Film Competition. A total of 25 films will be shown, each telling different stories related to cities and urban life.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with two special guests – Avijit Mukul Kishore and Amartya Ray.

Avijit Mukul Kishore is a filmmaker from Mumbai, known for his documentaries and creative video work. He studied cinematography at FTII and has shown his films at major festivals like Documenta 14, IDFA, and Kochi-Muziris Biennale. He also teaches and writes about cinema.

Amartya Ray, also from Mumbai, is a filmmaker and artist. He graduated in direction from FTII. His short films have been shown at festivals like DIFF, IDSFFK, and IFFSA Toronto. He has also received grants from PSBT and the Charles Correa Foundation for his documentary work.

Gujarati play: The Great Gujju’s Gulatiya

The Great Gujju’s – Gulatiya is a one-of-a-kind urban Gujarati play that is all set to elevate the standards of Gujarati commercial theatre. 

This is the story of the Gulatiya family, a family that feels just like our own. In today’s world, where money often replaces love and social media takes the place of understanding and values, the Gulatiyas bring laughter, warmth, and a refreshing perspective to the modern generation. 

The Great Gujju’s – Gulatiya is a meaningful comedy packed with strong values, heartfelt emotions, and unforgettable humour, a perfect mix of entertainment and insight.

Music: Suro Ka Safar

One can experience an evening where music breaks all barriers! Suro Ka Safar brings together soul-stirring performances by visually impaired, hearing and  speech-impaired, and sighted artists in a vibrant celebration of inclusion. From enchanting dances to a powerful live orchestra, this unique event is a tribute to the human spirit and the language of music that connects us all.

When: June 7 (8 pm)

Gujarati play: Oh!!! Womaniya…

‘Oh!!! Womaniya..’  is a play that starts with quirky…funny conversations that take place in a Vijapur, Mehsana to Mumbai train compartment. The conversion then takes a turn that shocks and makes the audience think about one of the most heinous societal evils against women that shake the world again and again. The play tries to explore the innermost recesses of a woman’s existence.

When: June 8 (9.30 pm)

Where: H K Hall, Ashram road

Hindi play: Chanakya 

This play is the modest attempt to read those glorious pages from the past. The production’s endeavour is to present an opportunity for introspection towards the Society and the leaders of the society. To proclaim that the nation is supreme and selfless love for the nation is the only virtuous selfishness. This Hindi play features an Indian actor known for working in film, stage and television- Manoj Joshi.

Ankahee – A silent play

This is a Hindi theatre production that explores the unspoken emotions and silences that exist between individuals. The play, without any spoken dialogue, uses movement, expression, and stage design to convey a story of love, loss, and redemption, set in a house. It aims to highlight how silence can be a powerful form of communication, revealing unspoken truths and emotions.

When: June 8 (9 pm)

Music: Desi Bluez

  • TakeOff: Desi Blues is a musical event happening at Natarani, specifically at Table By The Tree. It features an unplugged duo performance by Shwe G, Chirag Todi, and Steve, blending Indian musical roots with the blues. The event will showcase timeless blues classics, original compositions, and reimagined Bollywood and Indian tunes.

बच्चा party Finale With Puppets

  • ‘See them come alive,’ says Scrapyard The Theatre. The puppet animators are Neha, Dharmisha, Zeel, Mitali, Kiara, Buland, Darsh, Dhairya and Sanjay. Written and Directed by Sanjay Joshi
  • When: June 8 (8.30 pm)
  • Where:  Scrapyard-The Theatre, 23, Gujarat Society, Paldi

Comedy: Abijit Ganguly 

  • Abijit Ganguly talks about things he did in lockdown, turning 30, performing in interesting cities such as Kanpur & Chandigarh, a lot about married life, and a little about Modiji. 
  • When: June 8 (8.30 pm)
  • Where: Mishty Studio Campus, 132 Feet Ring Rd, Naranpura

Workshops

TMC’s acting workshop

  • A month-long acting workshop led by Director Janak Raval, Naishadh Purani, and Actor Ankit Patel will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from June 7 to June 29.
  • When: June 7 until June 29
  • Where: Theatre & Media Centre, Chenpur Road, Near Kodiar Temple, New Ranip

Night camp: Nature Connect

  • It is a night camp for children between 6 to 12 years at Ahmedabad’s minizoo- Sundarvan.
  • When: June 7-8 (5 pm-9 am)
  • Where: Sundarvan, Jodhpur Tekra, Satellite
