The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a man impersonating a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Ahmedabad Railway Station in Kalupur. The accused was reportedly cheating passengers, mainly labourers and less-educated individuals, by falsely checking their tickets and demanding money through online payments.
The man was caught during a routine security check near the foot overbridge on the Sabarmati side of the station on Sunday night.
The arrest happened around 10 pm on June 2 near the footbridge on the Sabarmati side of the station. RPF officer Piyush Chaudhary saw a man in a TTE uniform acting suspiciously. When asked, the man could not explain who he was or why he was there.
The man was taken to the RPF office for questioning. He gave his name as Shiv Shankar Jaiswal, 45, from Sunderpur, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
Jaiswal admitted that he was pretending to be a TTE and tricking passengers. He told them their tickets had problems or promised confirmed seats to those on waiting lists, then collected money through QR code payments.
RPF found that Jaiswal had no official railway ID or permission. He only had his Aadhaar card and ATM card. This was not his first time doing this—he had done the same thing at Ahmedabad station on May 30, 2025.
Officials said he targeted poor and less-educated passengers and wore a mask to hide his identity and look like real railway staff.
Jaiswal was sent to Government Railway Police (GRP) Ahmedabad for further legal action.
