The Gujarat cabinet on Wednesday approved urgent recruitment of more than 22,000 teachers and educational assistants across district schools before the new academic year begins, while also ordering immediate assessment of crop damage from unseasonal rains and reviewing preparations for PM Narendra Modi’s two-day visit.
The recruitment drive aims to fill critical vacancies for teachers, Vidya Sahayaks, and Gyan Sahayaks at primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools following opposition criticism during the budget session that claimed 40,000 teaching posts remain vacant statewide.
The Chief Minister has emphasised that appointments must be completed before schools reopen.
Crop damage assessment The cabinet ordered swift surveys of devastation to horticultural and summer crops from recent unseasonal rains, particularly focusing on banana, mango, sesame, and paddy fields.
The cabinet reviewed arrangements for PM Modi’s May 26-27 visit. His schedule includes programmes in Dahod and Kutch on Monday, followed by urban development project inaugurations in Gandhinagar, and an A’bad roadshow on Tuesday.
