In the wake of multiple cross-border attacks originating from Pakistan, the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abruptly called off on Thursday. In response to the security situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged a special Vande Bharat train to transport players, support staff, and officials from Dharamshala to Delhi as a precautionary measure.
The nearest railway station, Una, is expected to serve as the departure point for both teams and match officials, who are being prioritized for immediate evacuation from the region.
The match, held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, was suspended during the 11th over of Punjab Kings’ innings after one of the stadium’s floodlight towers unexpectedly went dark. Initially thought to be a technical malfunction, concerns escalated when two additional towers were switched off, prompting security personnel to instruct fans to exit the venue. The Indian Premier League later confirmed the match cancellation via its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Sources confirmed that the decision to abandon the game followed confirmed attacks in Jammu, including an incident at the Jammu airport where a Pakistani drone reportedly struck the premises. Rockets were also launched from across the International Border, triggering an immediate response from Indian Air Force jets. India’s air defence systems were subsequently activated and successfully intercepted incoming projectiles.
The swift evacuation of players underscores heightened security protocols in the face of growing regional tensions.
