Eight years after the original Raid hit the screens, Raid 2 returns with Ajay Devgn reprising his role as the upright IRS officer Amay Patnaik, once again taking on political corruption — this time, in a fictional town called Bhoj.
Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film opens in Rajasthan, 1989, and follows Amay on his 74th transfer as he digs into the black money trail of a powerful politician played effectively by Riteish Deshmukh. Unlike the high-octane action thrillers of recent years, Raid 2 leans into its grounded narrative and crisp writing, offering tension without over-the-top stunts.
Saurabh Shukla returns in a clever narrative role as Tau, a prison inmate who pops in with sharp commentary on power, corruption, and politics adding depth and dry wit to the story.
While the sequel mirrors some beats from the original, including themes and character archetypes, it also expands its scope with elements of suspense, light-hearted moments, and mass appeal. Vaani Kapoor joins the cast as the protagonist’s new partner, but the film firmly remains Amay’s story sincere, restrained, and morally centered.
Though slightly stretched in the second half, Raid 2 balances entertainment and realism, emerging as a solid continuation of a successful franchise. It may not carry the surprise punch of its predecessor, but it certainly delivers a compelling ride worth watching.
