Three people were seriously injured while trying to escape a major fire that broke out at an apartment in Aatrey Orchid Society near Indira Bridge on Tuesday evening. The fire started on the fourth floor, reportedly due to an air conditioner’s overheating, and quickly spread to the fifth floor, affecting around eight flats. In a panic, three people jumped from the gallery and were seriously injured. They were taken to Asarwa Civil Hospital, where one woman remains in critical condition and is on a ventilator in the ICU.
According to report, locals gathered in the society compound and helped people who jumped from upper floors by holding bed sheets and cushions. A video of one woman jumping from the gallery has also gone viral.
The fire department was alerted around 6 PM, and firefighters quickly arrived to rescue 27 people from the building. However, locals reported that the fire team lacked adequate equipment and raised concerns about the delay in completely controlling the fire.
