In a historic moment for cricket, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest batter ever to score a fifty in T20 cricket. The left-handed prodigy set the record during the IPL 2025 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 28.
At just 14 years and 32 days old, Suryavanshi surpassed the previous record held by Hassan Eisakhil, son of former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi, who scored a fifty at 15 years and 360 days during the Shpageeza League in 2022. Suryavanshi also shattered the record for the youngest player to score a fifty in IPL history, overtaking Riyan Parag, who had achieved the feat at 17 years and 175 days in 2019, and Sanju Samson, who did so at 18 years and 169 days in 2013.
Chasing a daunting target of 210, Suryavanshi wasted no time, playing aggressive cricket from the outset. He reached his half-century off just 17 balls — the fastest fifty of the ongoing tournament — with a boundary off Washington Sundar in the final ball of the fifth over. His fearless approach was evident earlier in the season when he became the youngest IPL debutant at 14 years and 23 days, smashing a six off Shardul Thakur on the very first ball he faced against the Lucknow Super Giants.
The Rajasthan Royals had secured the services of the young sensation for ₹1.10 crore at last year’s auction. After modest scores of 34 and 16 in his first two matches, Suryavanshi made a strong statement with his record-breaking performance. Notably, he also represented India U19 in the Asia Cup in the UAE, where he formed a formidable partnership with Ayush Mhatre.
