In a major step forward for India’s high-speed rail ambitions, Japan will gift two of its iconic Shinkansen train sets to India, lending critical support to the country’s first bullet train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
According to a report, The two train sets one each from the E5 and E3 series will be equipped with advanced inspection systems to aid in testing and evaluation of the under-construction Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project.
The move marks a significant milestone in Indo-Japanese collaboration on infrastructure and technology. The Shinkansen units are scheduled for delivery in early 2026, and will be instrumental in fine-tuning the operational readiness of the corridor before the launch of commercial services.
The gift underscores Japan’s continued support for India’s transformative rail initiatives, which aim to introduce world-class speed, safety, and efficiency in the country’s rail network.
